Datawarehouse SQL Server Startup Option -E

Cuando se tienen Datawarehouse con SQL Server de gran tamaño la opción de inicio –E puede ser útil para aumentar el desempeño ya que para cargas de trabajo de tipo DW aumenta la cantidad de extends que son asignados a cada archivo de un filegroup, se aplica en los escenarios en los cuales se tiene una cantidad limitada de usuarios cuyas consultas generan scans de datos, NO debe ser activado en ningún otro tipo de aplicación ya que afecta considerablemente el desempeño, además únicamente es soportada en la versión de 64 bits de SQL Server.

Este parámetro es utilizado en el TPC-H Performance Test disponible en http://www.tpc.org/results/FDR/tpch/HP_DL380G6_100GB_090409_2P_2.93GHzQC_FDR.pdf el TPC-H es una prueba estándar para medir el desempeño de sistemas de soporte de decisiones “This benchmark illustrates decision support systems that examine large volumes of data, execute queries with a high degree of complexity, and give answers to critical business questions.”

Deben evaluar si este parámetro aplica para sus escenarios de Datawarehouse.

Limpiar el LOG en SQL Server sin guardarlo

En versiones anteriores de SQL Server se contaba con el estatuto TRUNCATE_ONLY para limpiar el LOG sin guardarlo, sin embargo esta función fue deprecada en versiones nuevas de SQL Server. Por lo tanto si deseamos “limpiar ” LOG de SQL Server y no nos interesa su contenido podemos ejecutar los siguientes comandos:

 

-- Hacer backup sin guardarlo en archivo

BACKUP LOG [nombreBD] TO DISK='NULL'

- - Reducir el tamaño de los archivos de log


dbcc shrinkfile ('TLOGFILENAME', tamano) – donde tamano es la cantidad de MB que deseamos que quede el archivo
